"The Pima County Sheriff's Department recently identified two clerical errors in Sheriff Chris Nanos' publicly posted resume," a department spokesperson told reporters later Tuesday. "Both date discrepancies were administrative in nature and were not intended to mislead or misrepresent Sheriff Nanos' work history."

The statement did not address allegations in the report that he left his role in El Paso to avoid being fired.

"For clarity, Sheriff Nanos served with the El Paso Police Department from 1976 to 1982," the spokesperson added. "His service with El Paso PD concluded in 1982, not 1984 as previously stated. Additionally, Sheriff Nanos was promoted to the rank of captain in 2007, not 2009."

According to the report, Nanos served as a decoy who baited out drug dealers and would-be muggers. But he left in 1982 amid allegations of "insubordination" and "consistent inefficiency."

In six years, he reportedly spent 37 days suspended — for allegations of excessive use of force, off-duty gambling and coming to work late or missing shifts altogether.

Near the end of his time in El Paso, he took a 15-day suspension for allegedly sending a suspected robber to the intensive care unit after kicking him in the head during an arrest, according to police records included in the report.

The Republic also published what it described as an emailed response to its reporter's questions, attributed to Nanos himself, after he reportedly declined to comment on the error.

The actor, who died in February at 53 after being diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), participated in a voice restoration project weeks before his death. The project, which was overseen bythe AI firm ElevenLabs, was meant to help him communicate as he lost his voice. By restoring his voice, Dane was also able to provide his daughters Billie, 16, and Georgia, 14, with a piece of him after he died.

Dane's widow Gayheart toldVarietythat the lateGrey's Anatomystar "was really excited about it, because he was losing his voice, and it was becoming more difficult for him to communicate each and every day. So it became sort of urgent."

"He was waiting anxiously to hear it, and when we got it from ElevenLabs it was a really big moment. It was a powerful moment. We played it, and Eric became visibly emotional," Gayheart revealed of the result. "And when I heard it, I cried. I think everyone in the room did."

I'm sad, and I know Eric is too, that we didn't ever get to really use it. But what I do know is that he would want as many people as possible to have access" to the technology.

Sammy Hagar Says He'll Never Play with Alex Van Halen Again Because He's a 'Negative' Person

NEED TO KNOW

  • Hagar described Alex as a "negative" person

  • The two have not spoken for over 20 years

There's no love lost between formerVan HalenbandmatesSammy HagarandAlex Van Halen.

The rockers have not spoken in more than 20 years — and in a new interview, Hagar said he's certain he will never again share the stage with the drummer.

"I'm the biggestPink Floydfan. I seeDavid Gilmoursay, 'I will never play withRoger Watersagain,' and I know what he means. I feel that way about Alex Van Halen," Hagar toldClassic Rock. "They're negative people."

It remains unclear just why Hagar, 78, and Alex, 72, no longer speak, though Alex didn't even mention Hager's name in his 2024 memoirBrothers, writing only that Van Halen "had a lot of other singers over the years" followingDavid Lee Roth's departure in 1985.

Hagar toldRolling Stonein April 2025 that he and Alex hadn't spoken in 21 years. Though the interviewer suggested that Alex was unhappy with Hagar's 2011 memoir — which went into detail about the low points ofEddie Van Halen's life — and that he was just generally a more private person than Hagar, the Red Rocker disagreed.

"I think Al's angry because I'm out doing it…. And he can't. He's not a singer. He's not a guitar player. He is not really a band leader. And he seems like he doesn't want to play drums or can't play drums anymore, and he can't go write a new record," Hagar said. "If I put myself in his shoes, I would feel terrible if I couldn't do it anymore."

He went on to encourage Alex to "just leave me alone," saying he would do the same for him.

"Everything's good. I'm making you money, by the way, Al," he toldRS. "I'm out there selling Van Halen records and keeping the name alive, keeping the music alive."

Hagar previously had a falling out with Alex's brother Eddie, but the two"buried the hatchet" before Eddie diedin 2020.

"Well, to be able to have talked to Eddie and had a wonderful rapport with him on text, it means everything to me," Hagar toldFox News. "If he would have died and we would have not ever said 'I love you' to each other again, I would feel really bad. I probably wouldn't be able to talk… I wouldn't be able to talk to you about it."

Meanwhile, the rocker has also publicly slammed Roth, for whom he took over duties as Van Halen lead singer in 1985. Though Hagar left the group in 1996, he returned on tour in 2004.

Hagar said on theSteve-O's Wild Ridepodcast thatRoth "ain't like his persona."

"[David's] not a fun guy. He doesn't play well with others. I'm not sure what his problem is," he said. "He just always is about, 'How can I make this guy look bad? And not just me — in life. He's a chest-beating motherf---er. And God bless him, 'cause the early stuff is frickin' great."

Millions face tornado and storm warnings after homes destroyed in Midwest

Millions face tornado and storm warnings after homes destroyed in Midwest

More than 77 million people from the Midwest to the southern Plains were under some form of tornado warning on Wednesday after multiple apparent twisters caused extensive damage in Illinois and Indiana.

NBC Universal

Northern Illinois remains the highest risk, with a "moderate" tornado warning for 2 million people in cities south and east of Chicago, including Joliet, Peoria and Bloomington. A marginal risk extends all the way down to Texas and Tennessee.

A tornado emergency was declared in Knox, Indiana, on Tuesday, with the National Weather Service telling residents, "This is a life-threatening situation. Seek shelter now!"

On Tuesday, the parent thunderstorm that produced tornadoes in northern Illinois and northern Indiana persisted for over 7 hours, along a 200-mile path. According to the National Weather Service, there were eight reports of tornadoes between the two states on Tuesday, and two in Texas.

An elderly couple from Lake Village, Indiana, was killed in one of the tornadoes on Tuesday night, officials said on Wednesday. Several others were hospitalized from the storms, officials added.

Many areas were also hit by strong storms and heavy rain, with strong winds and hail the size of golf balls in the Chicago region. Flood warnings are in place along rivers in Illinois and Indiana.

Much of Indiana, northern Kentucky and western Ohio — including in Indianapolis, Evansville, Louisville and Cincinnati — are under a tornado watch until 12 p.m. ET. Approximately 67 million people are under the threat of severe storms from northern Pennsylvania down to the Gulf Coast.

More than 12,000 energy customers were without power across the Midwest and 23,000 across the Great Lakes region on Wednesday morning, according to PowerOutage.us.

NBC Chicagoreported that there was significant but, so far unquantified, damage across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana, including to homes, other buildings and roads.

Kankakee County, south of Chicago, declared a state of emergency and said local officials and sheriff's deputies were carrying out search and rescue efforts, as well as damage assessments. There have been no confirmed reports of deaths so far.

A house in the village of Aroma Park had its roof partially blown off and its walls collapsed, NBC Chicago reported. The local school district is shut Wednesday.

The resident, who gave his name as Bob,told NBC Chicagothat the storm "started getting louder and I started hearing stuff breaking and caving in and pretty soon my kitchen fell on top of me from upstairs."

"Everything caved in, the fridge and everything. Luckily, I was in, like, a hole, so I didn't get hurt at all — I was just trapped," he said. Neighbors came to rescue him.

Rob Churchill, the chief of the Lake Township Fire Department, said in a video posted to Facebook that multiple homes in Lake Village, Indiana, were destroyed when the town took a "direct hit" from a tornado. People forced from their homes were being sheltered in a local school. "It's going to be a long night," he added.

In the same video, while standing in front of what appeared to be a destroyed home, Newton County Sheriff Shannon Cothran said, "Please do not come here. Do not try to help right now."

Separately, Cothran told reporters that "injuries so far have been reported as being minor, but the home damage is pretty significant."

The midweek threat of storms and tornadoes makes this the most "widespread and impactful severe weather outbreak so far this year," according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Courtney Travis.

"The overlap of strong winds aloft, abundant moisture from the Gulf and sharp temperature contrasts creates an environment supportive of tornadoes, damaging wind gusts and large hail," he said.

The weather service told peoplein the Chicago area to reduce their water usage ahead of the storm to prevent flooding and protect the limited local water supply.

Parts of the Northeast also experienced extreme weather this week. On Tuesday, New York City's Central Park broke its daily high temperature record, with the temperature soaring to 80 degrees, melting away remaining snow and ice from a recent blizzard.
