Israel's Barak says he regrets knowing Epstein after documents detail their long friendship

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has apologized for his yearslong friendship with convicted sex offenderJeffrey Epsteinthat included regular correspondence, multiple visits to the disgraced financier's Manhattan apartment and one to his private island.

Associated Press

The former Israeli leaderhas not been implicatedin Epstein's sexual abuse of underage girls and faces no accusations of wrongdoing. In an exclusive interview with Israel's Channel 12 on Thursday, he said he regretted having ever known Epstein and apologized to all those "who feel deeply uncomfortable."

"I am responsible for all my actions and decisions, and there is definitely room to ask if there wasn't room for more in-depth judgment on my part and a more thorough examination of what the details really are, what exactly happened there," he said.

Barak appears in several documents

Barak is amongseveral political, business and cultural elitesfound to have maintained long relationships with Epstein, even after his 2008 guilty plea for soliciting prostitution from an underage girl in Florida. Epstein died by suicide in detention in 2019 while awaiting trial on federal allegations of sexually abusing and trafficking dozens of girls.

Barak, who has previously distanced himself from Epstein, gave the latest interview after millions of pages of documents were released by the U.S. Justice Department in connection with its investigations of Epstein.

Barak and his wife, Nili, have turned up frequently in the documents, showing they stayed in regular contact with Epstein for years, including after he cut a deal with prosecutors in 2008 that resulted in an 18-month prison sentence.

Barak has acknowledged visiting Epstein numerous times, flying on his private plane and staying at his New York apartment when he was out of public office. Barak said he and his wife and some security guards paid a three-hour visit to Epstein's home in the U.S. Virgin Islands, but saw only Epstein and some maintenance workers there.

Barak said he never observed or took part in any inappropriate behavior. He said he was aware of the earlier Epstein case but assumed he had paid his debt to society.

"Only in 2019, when a reinvestigation of the whole story begins, does the breadth and depth of the man's heinous crimes become apparent and I cut off relations with him, and everyone cuts off relations with him," Barak said.

'Do Not Drive' Order Issued for Thousands of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep Vehicles

February 13, 2026
A tall outdoor sign displays the logos of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram against a blue sky with clouds, next to a dealership building.

Once you've had a car for a decade, you might figure that it would no longer be part of a recall. But that's not the case for hundreds of thousands of older model cars after Stellantis, the maker of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Ram, issued a "do not drive" warning. The issue stems from the Takata airbag recall, which lots of people still haven't gotten fixed. Here's what you need to know about the Stellantis warning.

What's the Takata Airbag Issue?

Japanese parts supplier Takata began manufacturing airbags with an explosive flaw in the early 2000s. Over time, the chemical propellant inside the airbag can degrade, which can lead to the airbag rupturing when it's deployed and sending metal fragments into the car, injuring anyone inside. So far, there have been 28 deaths associated with the defective Takata airbags, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, along with hundreds of injuries.

In total, 67 million vehicles have been recalled in the U.S. for defective Takata airbags over the last decade. It's the largest ever such recall in U.S. history, according to Reuters.

Which Vehicles Are Affected?

This week, Stellantis issued a new "do not drive" warning related to the Takata airbag recall. Though tens of millions of airbags have been replaced by various car makers, there are at least 225,000 Stellantis vehicles that have not been repaired.

"This action is intended to accelerate the repair of the remaining affected vehicles to safeguard owners, their families and the general public from the risk of serious injury or death," the car maker said in a statement.

Stellantis has performed repairs on about 95% of its recalled vehicles, which amounts to about 6.6 million cars.

2009 Dodge Ram 1500 ST Quad Cab

These are the vehicles that are included in Stellantis' "do not drive" warning:

  • 2003 to 2016 Dodge Ram and Dodge Sprinter

  • 2004 to 2009 Dodge Durango

  • 2005 to 2012 Dodge Dakota

  • 2005 to 2008 Dodge Magnum

  • 2006 to 2015 Dodge Charger

  • 2008 to 2014 Dodge Challenger

  • 2007 to 2009 Chrysler Aspen

  • 2007 to 2008 Chrysler Crossfire

  • 2005 to 2015 Chrysler 300

  • 2007 to 2016 Jeep Wrangler

If you have any of these vehicles but you have not gotten its Takata airbags fixed (or if you do not know), you should stop driving the car until you do. You can take it to a Stellantis dealership where they will complete the repairs free of charge.

You can check your car's recall status by calling 833-585-0144 or by entering its VIN on theNational Highway Traffic Safety Administration's recall status website.

Over 50 nursing students contract measles at Florida university

More than 50 nursing students at a Florida university are battling measles, state health officials announced this week, as the virus'outbreak continues to grownationwide.

USA TODAY

As of Feb. 13, seven students at Ave Maria University had contracted the highly-contagious virus, the state Department of Health reported, bringing the school's total number of cases to 57.

The school is in Collier County, about a 35-minute drive northeast from Naples.

The viruscauses a redish blotchy, rashthat usually appears on the body three to five days after initial symptoms, according to theCenters for Disease Control. An infected person can spread the virus four days before a rash appears through four days after it appears.

"All nurse-assessed students on campus within the four-day contagious period following the onset of a rash are in quarantine," the universityreleased in a statementon its website.

In response to the outbreak, the statement continues, the school will continue to provide support through ongoing monitoring and quarantine protocols, free vaccinations, and "transparent communication."

A healthcare worker prepares a dose of the measles vaccine at a health module during a mass vaccination campaign launched by the Ministry of Health in response to the increase in measles cases in Mexico City on February 8, 2026.

State officials are urging people to check their vaccination status asmeaslescases rise across the nation with outbreaks reported in states includingCaliforniaandSouth Carolina.

What is measles and how do you get it?

Measles is a vaccine-preventable disease caused by a virus that primarily, and most severely, affects children. According to theWorld Health Organization (WHO), it infects the respiratory tract before spreading throughout the body.

According to CDC data, one in five unvaccinated peoplewho contract the virus end up hospitalized.

Measles is spread through contact with infected nasal or throat secretion.

Outbreak comes amid government's scrutiny of vaccines

The outbreak at the university comes just over a month after federal regulators overhauled their long-timeguidance on childhood immunizationand reverted recommendations for routine vaccination against six infectious diseases, including the flu.

In August 2025, the Department of Health and Human Services announced it wouldwind down mRNA vaccine development activitiesunder its biomedical research unit, the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority. The unit helped companies develop medical suppliesto address public health threatsand had provided billions of dollars to develop vaccines during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Major medical organizations and health experts have criticized guidelines of Health SecretaryRobert F. Kennedy Jr., a longtime vaccine skeptic who has been making sweeping changes to not only vaccines but food and medicine policies.

Can you get measles if you have been vaccinated?

Yes, you can contract the virus if you have been vaccinated with the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR) according to the CDC, but it is rare.

About three in 100 people who have gotten the two-dose vaccination may contract the virus when exposed, the CDC says. Their symptoms are milder than those who contract it without being vaccinated – and they are less likely to spread measles.

Per CDC data, one dose of the MMR vaccine is 93% effective against measles, 78% effective against mumps, and 97% effective against rubella. Two doses of MMR vaccine are 97% effective against measles and 88% effective against mumps.
