Gabriel Magalhaes insists he understands Mikel Arteta's shock choice to drop him at the beginning of Arsenal's season.

The 26-year-old shaped a strong partnership alongside William Saliba at the heart Arsenal's defence last term but for the beginning of the current marketing campaign in August, the Brazil international was relegated to the substitutes' bench for the primary three games.

Arteta ultimately restored Gabriel to the starting line-up for the Three-1 victory towards Manchester United firstly of September and the centre-back has retained his place in the aspect.

The Arsenal manager has since argued that his surprise call to axe Gabriel has made the Brazilian a 'much better player', but the defender admits the method of being dropped was 'troublesome'.

'It was robust, obviously at first. I needed to play and it was very troublesome for me but I understood what the coach needed to do,' Gabriel advised PA News.

'It is troublesome for any player to not be in the group however now I'm again in I need to carry on working exhausting to prove my value.

'He [Arteta] spoke to me and clearly defined the explanations behind the decision. Why I should stay, but crucial thing was to remain targeted and concentrate.
