Ben White snubbed England after 'barbed comment' from Steve Holland in front of Three Lions teammates | 143W7CM | 2024-03-22 16:08:01
Ben White's England exile was sparked by a remark made by Gareth Southgate's assistant coach Steve Holland in entrance of his England teammates at the World Cup in Qatar.
Last week, Southgate revealed the Arsenal defender had made it clear he does not wish to be considered for selection for the national team.
Arsenal's sporting director Edu informed England of the 26-year-old's choice with Southgate claiming he unaware of the precise reasons behind his choice.
Last November in the course of the group levels of the World Cup in Qatar, White left the England camp in Doha to return residence for what the FA described as 'personal reasons'. He has not been part of the Three Lions squad since then.
In response to the Daily Telegraph, problems arose when Holland made a 'barbed remark' directed at White in front of his teammates.
The report states Holland initially asked White's fellow right-back Kyle Walker a question referring to Manchester Metropolis's performances the previous season.
Holland then requested White the same query on Arsenal's current season with the Gunners defender replying he did not know the answer.
It is claimed Holland remarked that White shouldn't be 'sufficiently interested' in football to know the reply.
A number of days later, White asked to go away the England camp. There was considered no row between White and Holland, both in personal or in entrance of teammates.
The report provides White's problem with the comments have been the public nature of them, viewing it as a problem of respect.
During last week's press conference, Southgate stressed that Holland does not have an issue with White.
'He's clearly enjoying very properly and has been for a long time,' Southgate stated of White.
'However he's not the first player who, at sure occasions, hasn't needed to be out there for choice. I've all the time tried to guard these gamers as a result of I all the time want the door to be left open, despite the fact that on a lot of those events I'm the one who gets it within the neck for not choosing them and other people don't know the reasons.

'There's no problem between us and there was never any situation with Steve Holland. That has been talked about in articles and I don't like that.
'Individuals can speak about me and I've to simply accept that issues get stated which might be false, about me. For no matter cause in this position, you need to stomach that.
'However I'm not prepared for that to occur to a key member of my coaching workforce. That isn't the rationale Ben is just not out there for choice.'
