A football match has been referred to as off after someone within the stadium suffered a medical emergency mid-game.

The victim is considered a fan who fell ailing within the away stands while Weymouth performed Yeovil Town at residence on Monday afternoon.

An air ambulance was seen touchdown on the pitch at the Bob Lucas Stadium on the 77th minute in front of hundreds of surprised spectators.

Paramedics have been seen tending to the fan, who was loaded into the helicopter and flown off in the area of some minutes.

Sheridan Robins, BBC Radio 5 Stay's commentator for the Nationwide League South fixture, described the subdued environment because the conflict 'paled into insignificance'.

An announcer on the tannoy initially stated the match would resume after the fan was treated but a choice was soon made to desert it.

Fans applauded as the respective teams and their coaches left the pitch.

Weymouth, who're trailing Yeovil within the league, have been hoping to beat their rivals for the first time since 1988 and have been main 1-0 when the match was stopped.

Yeovil stay seven points clear on the prime of the league and only need six extra factors to guarantee the title.

It was not immediately clear whether or not a rematch might be held.
