MEXICAN authorities believe they have found the bodies of three tourists who vanished last week on a surfing trip to Baja California.

The tragic discovery was made at the bottom of a cliff in the Mexican town, 74 miles from Tijuana, during a search for the missing American and his two Australian friends.

A search team from the anti-homicide unit and firefighters made it to the scene Friday morning to recover the bodies near where Jake Robinson, Callum Robinson, and Carter Rhoad were last seen.

Prosecutors earlier referred to Rhoad as Jack Carter Rhoad – he was also referred to as Jack on missing posters.

Witnesses last saw the men on April 27 in the La Bocana de Santo Tomás area, according to the Baja California prosecutor, María Elena Andrade Ramirez.

Australian brothers Callum and Jake were accompanied by Carter, an American, and all three of them traveled from San Diego, California.

The three surfers were on vacation in the Ensenada Municipality in Baja, one of Mexico's most violent states due to organized crime.

Debra Robinson, the mother of Callum and Jake, was the first two to report her sons missing.

Concerns were raised when the three surfers never showed up at their Airbnb over the weekend.

On Instagram, she made a post about the desperate search for her sons and their friend.

"Australian friends, Jake and Callum Robinson have gone missing around Rosarita/Ensenada region of Baja California Norte Saturday morning," she wrote.

"They were likely surfing. Callum is diabetic—this is a very dire situation."

During a press conference on Thursday, Ramirez said police found the tourists' white pickup truck on fire in that same area during a search.

They also found tents that were said to have belonged to the men.

Debra revealed that they are investigating three alleged perpetrators in connection with the men's disappearance.

"At this moment, a team of investigators is in the location where it seems they were seen for the last time, where tents were found along with some evidence that could be related to these three people included in the investigation," Ramirez said.

Ramirez said all signs point to the bodies belonging to the surfers, but this has yet to be confirmed by US officials.

PERSON OF INTEREST PICTURED

None of the persons of interests' names were released but they are questioning a 23-year-old woman and two brothers, according to ABC News Australia.

A picture of the woman was released who was found with one of the missing men's phones and a bag of drugs, according to Ramirez.

The cellphone had a wallpaper photo of one of the missing tourists with the woman, Ensenada Mayor Carlos Ibarra Aguiar said in a press release.

Mexican officials have confirmed the FBI and US and Australian consulate officials are all working on the case.

The state prosecutor's office also requested assistance from the Mexican Navy.

Meanwhile, heartbroken parents Debra and Martin Robinson said they were going to Mexico to search for their sons.

"Callum and Jake are beautiful human beings. We love them so much and this breaks our heart," the parents told ABC News Australia.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to the Baja California prosecutor's office.
