Celebs get slammed for 'unrealistic' high rise trend from Kendall Jenner to Maura Higgins & Maya Jama | 8L51023 | 2024-05-01 20:08:01
IT may be stormy and cold out there but some celebrities are raising temperatures with their skimpy two pieces and cut out cossies.
While the rest of wrap up warm and count down the days until spring, Instagram has been flooded with snaps of both reality stars and A-listers spilling out of their swimwear in hot climes.
Hollywood stars and reality stars are causing waves with the 'high rise' bikini trend[/caption]There's nothing new there except some are taking the briefness to a whole new level.
Stars from Kendall Jenner, to Lottie Moss and Maya Jama have become part of the 'high rise bikini' trend – which sees their bottoms yanked up above their waist – both front and back.
It's left the rest of us wondering just how realistic – and painful – it must be to pull off the same look.
Fans have taken to social media to share their thoughts with many asking: "Why bother with the bikini?"
And Celebrity stylist Lalla Bronshtein says the trend is "totally unrealistic."
She says: "The High rise trend is the new celebrity trend of 2024.
"Instead of celebrities wearing their bikini bottoms around their waist, they are pulling them as high as possible, which is allowing a lot of skin to be on show.
"But there's a lot of background work in these photos to make them appear to be so picture perfect.
"A-listers and reality stars are lucky enough to have access to a whole team of professional photographers, extremely good lighting, makeup artists, a fashion team and editing softwares.
"This is ultimately why the celebrities don't have their hair in the wrong place, or are spilling out in places you'd never want to be spilling out from.
"For these types of bikinis you'll need good angles and different styles of cover ups to make it work, such as kimono, sarongs, crochet shorts to lace dresses."
Here, along with Lalla, YASMIN HARISHA takes a look at celebrity fans who seem to have joined the high rise club and if you're brave enough to try the trend, she reveals how…
Maya Jama
LOVE Island host Maya Jama is proving to be a cut above the rest whilst holidaying in Cape Town, South Africa, at the beginning of the year.
The 29 year old, who is currently dating rapper Stormzy, caught a quick break before hosting Love Island: All Stars 2024.
She shared a picture modelling a black cutout monokini style swimsuit to her three million Instagram followers, and captioned it: "Everything's better in the sunshine."
Talking about her bikini, many fans were fascinated at how she managed to model "such a high bikini" and how her "bunda broke the internet."
Another person commented: "Maya putting everyone in zoom in mode."
Lalla recommends wearing a cover up with it.
She says: "If you'd like to wear something like this, but fear you might fall out of it, team it up with a maxi cover up chiffon Kimono.
"Wearing the kimono open will show just enough of the cutout swimsuit-bikini making it look flattering, complimenting your figure well."
Kendall Jenner
Keeping up with the trends as per usual is Kendall Jenner and her itsy bitsy super teeny bikini.
Being the top model she is, Kendall, 28, put everything out there the reality star got tongues wagging after she shared a bikini picture of herself to celebrate the new year.
However, the picture didn't get a lot of positive feedback.
"Disappointed," one wrote.
Another questioned: "Why bother with the bikini???"
A third asked: "I don't get why a woman would want to share this with the world? Do you have no self respect?"
Lalla says: "Kendall Jenner is wearing a micro string bikini, but that isn't very realistic to wear for most.
"She's using her professional skills here to make the most of the picture, but it's not natural at all.
"Some may feel uncomfortable wearing this or walking along the beach in this as the bikini may not stay in the same place.
"For it to work, a long sleeve sequin net mini dress is great to pair with a micro string bikini as you're still showing off the bikini style but covering up at the same time."
Kim Kardashian
Known for always being picture perfect and often leaving little to the imagination, Kim Kardashian oozes with confidence in her skimpy briefs.
The mum of four shared a picture of herself playing tennis in a pink Chanel Velour bikini – which costs over £5,000 – with her 364 million Instagram followers.
But it may leave you wondering how she managed to run around with a bikini pulled that high.
Lalla says: "Don't be fooled by the professional sports equipment she is holding, Kim Kardashian is posing perfectly here and knows exactly what she's doing to make a real statement.
"I'd recommend wearing a top and bottom mesh cover up set.
"With it being mesh fabric, you still get to see the bikini style under the cover up without feeling virtually naked."
Perrie Edwards
Whilst currently embracing motherhood, former Little Mix singer Perrie Edwards recently enjoyed a well deserved break in Antalya, Turkey with family.
The 30 year old, who welcomed her first child with her fiancé Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, 30, in August 2021, looked super fit in a thong micro bikini, with a one shoulder bikini top.
But this isn't the most realistic bikini to be walking around in.
Lalla says: "I'd recommend a crochet bodycon skirt to help with any mishaps.
"Adding just a skirt your focus is on the distinctive bikini top, which I believe is the nicest part of the suit."
Georgia Harrison
She's now appearing on All Stars: Love Island attempting to find love in sunny South Africa, but it seems Georgia Harrison may have been getting her tan on beforehand to prepare for it.
The 29 year old reality star had fans blushing after she wore a tiny hot pink bikini at the beach.
And with her impressive body, Georgia was able to pull off an "extremely high" bikini bottom.
Causing waves in her comments section, many commented on how she looked so "unreal" with her "truly amazing body."
But wearing this bikini isn't for the faint hearted.
Lalla says: "Georgia Harrison is wearing a Pink halter tie side string Thong Bikini.
"For it to work, I'd recommend wearing a co-ord crochet beach short set in cream over bikini.
"This will show off the coloured bikini and bring a pop of colour to the overall look."
Maura Higgins
Whilst many of us have been wrapping up to keep warm, former Love Islander Maura Higgins has been cooling off.
The 33 year old, who is 5ft 7ins and has a slender figure, holidayed in the Maldives in a very tiny two piece.
She captioned the picture: "I like my bikinis how I like my wine…..Red."
Many rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts on her "amazing body" with one saying how she "took their breath away."
It's no wonder with a tiny bikini like that.
Lalla says: "This is a very brave bikini to wear, but Maura certainly has the body for it.
"But for those who don't want to feel like they could be spilling out, I'd suggest wearing a low back crochet maxi beach dress over the bikini set, either in black or white, as both colours will be a good contrast with the red bikini set."
Sophie Kasaei
Geordie Shore star Sophie Kasaei was virtually down to her birthday eve suit in this snap which she shared on the eve of her birthday.
The 34 year old left little to the imagination in black leather.
Lalla says: "This is a brave bikini to wear, and I'd say isn't for everyday use.
"Like Sophie, I'd recommend this is best for getting professional pictures taken where you can pose in the best way possible, without showing off too much.
"If you like the style of this bikini, I'd recommend teaming it with a white or light blue sheer mesh cami dress, adding this will compliment the bikini style and make it very on trend.
"Whilst hiding things you may feel self conscious about."
Emily Ratajkowski
Never one to shy away from the camera, Emily Ratajkowski oozes with confidence and glamour.
However, the 32-year-old mum sparked a debate in the comments section of her Instagram page after modelling a 'high rise' bikini.
Many thought Emily, who promotes body positivity, was showing off "too much skin," and implied she shouldn't be doing it.
One wrote: "Imagine if your mum would run around the house like this. What would you think about her?
"Why do you complain about the objectification of your body when your whole Instafeed is objectifying your whole body?"
Another asked: "Does she ever put clothes on!"
A third said: "And then you make a podcast complaining how men sexualise you. Can't have it both ways."
Emily is wearing a Brazilian mini bikini bottom with a string bikini top.
Lalla says: "For it to work wear a bodycon crochet midi dress over the bikini.
"A bodycon style of dress goes well with this type of bikini style."
