A GROUP of residents have expressed serious complaints as their lawns are destroyed by nearby construction.

In the homeowners' neighborhood in Orlando, Florida, a process is being done street by street that involves crews digging to lay cables.

As a sign that construction will be underway, color-coded flags are put on the lawns of residents in the community named Baldwin Park, local CBS affiliate WKMG-TV reported.

Normally, homeowners keep their lawns in tip-top shape as it is a priority for the HOA community but earlier this year, the neighbors' yards were unexpectedly ruined by the work being done.

While the HOA makes residents keep their lawns nice, the neighbors complained that, on top of the work ruining the ground, construction workers leave trash and food scraps in their yards.

Because of this, a resident who's been a homeowner in Baldwin Park for about 20 years, isn't looking forward to the day the construction makes it to her street as she could face backlash from the HOA.

"You were hired to do a job, OK, that's fine — do it," Eugenia Montiel said.

"But if you're doing a job, you need to leave the area in the same condition you found it."

A representative of the company doing the fiber installation, Hotwire Communications, said the company understands construction can be very disruptive.

That being said, the company added that residents don't have to deal with a bill to have their lawns fixed.

Additional crews would be fixing any damage made by the construction within 30 days of the initial service, the representative told WKMG-TV.

"Thirty days, I believe, is a long time," Montiel said.

"We need to know why 30 days because you don't want to live in a house where your front is a mess or the grass is ripped."

They explained that the circumstances would be a short-term pain for long-term gain.

Montiel still worries the HOA will penalize residents if it's not fixed sooner despite the damage to the lawns being out of their control.

"If they don't fix it, then the homeowners are the ones who (are going to) have to take the consequences," she stressed.

"And take the costs of taking the property back to the way they found it."

The Baldwin Park residents aren't the only HOA homeowners who live in fear of unexpected fees being slapped on them by their association.

One resident in another Orlando, Florida, neighborhood received notices from his HOA saying he may need to pay thousands of dollars in just months for special assessment fees.

The notice warned that small homes will have to pay $11,148 and large houses will owe $22,104.

They'd have until July 31 to pay the full amount, but half must be paid by June 30, according to the notice.

It also said monthly HOA assessment fees will rise too and they should also expect increases next year.
