A LUCKY shopper has shared how they struck gold while rummaging through the $2 bin at their local thrift store.
The thrifter said they spotted the cool-looking coin — set on a metal base and surrounded by blue gemstones — and picked it up without thinking.
A Redditor found an 1885 coin made of real gold during a recent thrift store run[/caption]The golden coin ended up being an 1885 $5 Liberty Head — made out of real gold.
The incredibly rare find can be worth $660 in circulated condition and upwards of $15,000 in mint condition, according to TheCoolDown.com.
The post included a photo of the shiny gold coin and chain with the image of a bust on one side and an eagle on the other.
"Originally it was on a cheap ribbon necklace, upgraded it to a 14k chain I found on the ground lol," they wrote in the Thrift Store Hauls (r/thriftstorehauls) thread.
The Redditor's good luck led some commenters to say that she had the Midas Touch of thrifting.
"And you found the gold chain on the ground?? Ok Midas. Very nice piece!" one person commented.
"So freakin' cool!!! I'd be tempted to sell but would have to keep and wear all the time," a second person wrote.
"This is one of my favorite finds ever, and it's always been a dream of mine to have a real gold coin necklace," they responded.
"You have all the luck! You find a gold chain on the ground and then you thrift a real gold coin pendant for $2? Go buy a lottery ticket," another user commented.
"This is the kind of rare find that will keep us shopping thrift forever," another added.

Other shoppers who love going used have described how fun it can be to score a good find.
Reddit user El-In-Hell showed off a designer handbag that she got way below market value on a recent thrift store trip.
"[I'm] kind of losing my mind at my luck," the thrifter wrote in the post.
She revealed she paid $8 for the light pink clutch with black buttons that she proudly displayed in the image attached to the post.
The lucky thrifter later learned that the small Gucci tag on the outside of the bag was legit — and the bag could be worth much more than she paid.
And another Redditor (u/am_ireallyhere) hit it big with a different designer bag they also snagged by thrifting.
She posted an image of a stylish brown leather handbag with white stitch details and large buckles.
"My proudest thrift, an authentic Chloe Edith bag for roughly $20," she said.
Other thrifters said they were impressed by the budget-friendly purchase, but some doubted it was real.
"Some of the stitching seems off and even though it's a little blurry the Chloe imprint on the front doesn't appear to be the right font," one person commented.
"I'm so sorry to say but this is not authentic," another said. "Chloe does not use string and paper tags. Cool, though!"
