Iowa women's basketball sophomore forward Ava Jones, who was seriously injured as a pedestrian hit by an impaired driver in 2022 before she ever played for the Hawkeyes, will take a medical disqualification and retire from the sport. New Hawkeyes coach Jan Jensen made the announcement on Friday after the player consulted with the team doctor and athletic trainers. Jones was not medically cleared to play for Iowa in the 2023-24 season, but she will be remaining on scholarship as she pursues a degree in sports media and culture.
