Jerry West, the Los Angeles Lakers legend who won an NBA championship in 1972 and helped bring Kobe Bryant to the team, has died at age 86. The Los Angeles Clippers, where West served as an executive board member, confirmed his death and called him "the personification of basketball excellence and a friend to all who knew him" in a statement, according to KTLA. West — born May 28, 1938, in West Virginia — became the third player in NBA history to reach 25,000 points and was named an All-Star every season of his 14-year career.
