The summer sun floods in through the kitchen doors as we prepare for our son's first birthday party. I'm blowing up balloons. Eddie, Sid's father, is cooking. Meanwhile, Jack, Eddie's partner and Sid's other dad, is on margarita duty. A glass smashes on the floor. In a flash, I scoop up Sid, Jack clears the broken glass and Eddie pours another drink.
