Joey Chestnut defeated longtime rival Takeru Kobayashi in their hot-dog eating contest by setting a world record with 83 buns and wieners consumed in 10 minutes. Chestnut beat his own world record by seven hot dogs in the 1-on-1 competitive-eating clash held in Las Vegas. It was the first time since 2009 that Kobayashi and Chestnut had faced in a hot-dog eating contest. This was also the first year since 2000 that neither man had competed in the Fourth of July Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Brooklyn, New York.
