The plot of Netflix's Lonely Planet feels straight out of a best-selling beach read. Written and directed by Susannah Grant, the film follows fiction writer Katherine Loewe (Laura Dern) as she travels to Morocco for a writers' retreat. While there, she meets a younger man named Owen Brophy (Liam Hemsworth), a finance guy who finds himself completely out of place when he attends the all-expenses-paid getaway with his girlfriend, Lily Kemp (Diana Silvers), an up-and-coming novelist.
