Tropical Storm Erin, which is still thousands of miles from the U.S. East Coast in the central Atlantic Ocean, is traveling west and forecast to strengthen into the season's first hurricane by Thursday, the National Hurricane Center said. The stronger the Bermuda High - a semi-permanent ridge of high pressure that sits over the western Atlantic Ocean in the summer - the more of a threat Erin is to the United States. A weaker Bermuda High is better news.
