Mark Hamill is looking back with gratitude on his nearly 50-year marriage.
Marilou Hamill, who wed the Star Wars actor back in 1978, got a special shout-out from him at the 2025 San Diego Film Festival on Oct. 16, where Mark received the Gregory Peck Award for Cinematic Excellence, presented by Variety.
The outlet reported that the Long Walk star, 74, closed his acceptance speech at the Night of the Stars Tribute by saying, "In 1978, I married my former dental hygienist, Marilou Hamill — the best decision I ever made."
Marilou, 70, "gave me three beautiful children," he continued. "She's been with me through thick and thin and the ups and downs in this crazy business. I can't thank her enough. I love you."

Mark and Marilou share grown kids Nathan, Griffin and Chelsea. The couple indeed met at the dental office Marilou worked in, not long before Mark became a household name thanks to the success of George Lucas' Star Wars trilogy.
"I want to share this with the countless people who have helped me over the years because a career in this business is a composite endeavor," Mark said of the award named for the late Peck. "I think of all the writers, directors, other actors and crew. You can't do it alone. There are so many people who helped me get to where I am today."
The Life of Chuck star added that early in his career, he "didn't have high aspirations… My goal was to become a working stiff, do what I loved, be able to make a living at it to pay the bills and hopefully support a family."

More recently, Mark accepted another honor, the SCAD Savannah Film Festival's Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing a long career that this year has included the films The Life of Chuck, The Long Walk and upcoming The SpongeBob Movie: Search for SquarePants (in theaters Dec. 19).
He told PEOPLE at that Wednesday, Oct. 29 event that he has "been a fan of" Ryan Gosling, who is leading an upcoming continuation of the Star Wars cinematic universe, Starfighter, in theaters May 28, 2027.
"None of those people need advice from me," Mark said of the newest Star Wars filmmakers. "They're doing so well. I had my time. I'm going to ask for advice from them."
