- Kim Kardashian has tried to cast extreme doubt on the 1969 moon landing.

- The reality personality tried to convince *All's Fair* costar Sarah Paulson that it never happened.

- "I think it was fake," Kardashian said on *The Kardashians*.

National and historic milestones are but a questionable fantasy in the mind of Kim Kardashian, who once famously (and, perhaps, allegedly) balanced a champagne glass on her derrière.

The reality personality, actress, and businesswoman attempted to convince her *All's Fair* costar Sarah Paulson that the 1969 moon landing never actually happened in the latest episode of *The Kardashians.*

Between takes of filming the upcoming drama on set — where Paulson is earlier shown being adopted into the Kardashian family by Kris Jenner — Kardashian is shown attempting to sway Paulson's opinion on the landmark space journey while they receive touch-ups during production.

"I'm sending you a million articles with both Buzz Aldrin and the other one," Kardashian says to Paulson, who looks over at her costar from the side of her eye.**

Kardashian reads from an article that reportedly includes a person asking Buzz Aldrin, the NASA astronaut who embarked on a journey to the moon on the Apollo 11 space mission, what the scariest moment of the expedition was.

She reads from the piece, and casts doubt on his answer to the question. "He's gotten old and now he like, slurs," Kardashian says of Aldrin, 95.

"So, I think it didn't happen," the 45-year-old continues, with Paulson replying by telling her pal that she's "going to go on a massive deep dive" into the topic.

Later, in a confessional, Kardashian admits, "I center conspiracies all the time," before the show cuts to a shot of Kardashian breaking for lunch in her trailer.

"For the record, you didn't think we walked on the moon?" a producer asks her in the shot, and Kardashian responds, "I don't think we did. I think it was fake."

She continues, "I've seen a few videos on Buzz Aldrin talking about how it didn't happen. He says it all the time now, in interviews. Maybe we should find Buzz Aldrin."

Kardashian then proposes that Aldrin go on her sister Khloe's podcast to hash out the matter of American history. She also cites various factors that contribute to her doubt, including her assessment that there is no gravity on the moon, so "why is the flag blowing?", and her insistence that there are no stars in photos from the moment.**

The producer then asks her about potential public reception to her feeling.

"They're gonna say I'm crazy no natter what," Kardashian replies. "But go to TikTok, see for yourself!"

Kim Kardashian said the 1969 moon landing never happened in Thursday's episode of 'The Kardashians'.

In a fact-checking article shared by Reuters, the outlet notes that "social media users are sharing a video of astronaut Buzz Aldrin being interviewed by American television host Conan O'Brien and claiming that Aldrin discussing parts of the moon landing broadcasts being animated is proof that it was all faked," before noting that he was, in fact, "referring to animations used by broadcasters at the time in their coverage of the moon landing, intercut with real footage. The moon landing did take place and men did walk on the moon."

DETROIT — A former Marine who opened fire at a Michigan church and set the building ablaze in late September was motivated by anti-religious beliefs, the Federal Bureau of Investigation said.

While the Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network, previously reported that the suspect in the deadly attack had expressed disdain toward The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the FBI initially did not share details on a possible motive in what they called an "act of targeted violence."

About a month after the attack, the FBI revealed the suspected motive in a brief update on Oct. 31. The agency did not provide further information on how investigators determined the motive but Jennifer Runyan, special agent in charge at the FBI Detroit field office, said it was "based upon countless hours of investigative efforts."

"Based upon the facts, circumstances, and information obtained in this case, I am confirming that this is a targeted act of violence believed to be motivated by the assailant's anti-religious beliefs against the Mormon religious community," Runyan said in a video statement.

The gunman, identified as 40-year-old Thomas Jacob Sanford, had opened fire on hundreds of worshippers inside the church in Grand Blanc Township on Sept. 28. At some point, Sanford set the church on fire before he was fatally shot by responding officers.

Four people were killed in the attack, and Runyan said in the update that nine people were injured. Authorities had previously said eight people were wounded.

Runyan noted that the investigation remains ongoing and the FBI is pursuing all credible leads related to this case. Since the attack, Runyan said the FBI has provided more than 100 personnel to investigate the incident, including special agents and intelligence analysts.

"I would like the entire Grand Blanc community to know that we stand with you. We remember those who are no longer with us and continue to hold in our thoughts those who are still recovering," Runyan said. "This tragedy not only affected the Grand Blanc community but also left a lasting impact on our nation."

Federal authorities previously declined to share information on case

The update on Oct. 31 was one of the first updates from federal law enforcement in weeks. The Free Press asked for details from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives but representatives said they could not provide more information, citing the federal government shutdown.

"During the furlough, (U.S. Department of Justice) operations are directed toward national security, violations of federal law, and essential public safety functions. With that being said, the ATF investigation of the attack at an LDS church in Grand Blanc Township has not been affected during the furlough," Tracy Morris, a Detroit-based ATF spokesperson, said in an email to the Free Press on Oct. 20.

"Unfortunately, the rest of your questions will have to be answered once the furlough is over and I am back in the office."

A section of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc Township is seen on Oct. 6, 2025, through fabric along the fencing surrounding the charred remains at the scene where the church was burned down. What happened in the Grand Blanc church shooting?

The attack unfolded shortly before 10:30 a.m. local time on Sept. 28, while hundreds of people were attending morning services.

Authorities said Sanford had rammed a pickup truck bearing two American flags into the chapel and used an assault rifle to open fire. He also used gasoline to set the building on fire, which reduced much of the church to rubble.

Two law enforcement officers, who responded to the scene within 30 seconds of the first 911 call, shot and killed Sanford in the church parking lot within minutes of the shooting, Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye previously said.

Two churchgoers died of gunshot wounds. The bodies of two other worshippers were discovered in the rubble of the chapel hours later.

Grand Blanc Township, a suburb of Flint, Michigan, is about 60 miles northwest of Detroit. As of the 2020 census, the city had a population of about 7,700 people.

Minnesota church shooting: Teachers, children became heroes 'within seconds' after shooter opened fire

Who was Thomas Jacob Sanford?

Sanford lived in Burton, Michigan, just miles from the church where the attack occurred. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2004 to 2008, including a stint in the Middle East, and was awarded several medals and commendations.

About a week before the shooting, Sanford went on a tirade against The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and called Mormons "the Antichrist," according to Kris Johns, a candidate for the local Burton City Council.

Johns was canvassing when he knocked on Sanford's door, and the two men discussed religion, Sanford's time in the military, their children, and battles with addiction.

"It was very much standard anti-LDS talking points that you would find on YouTube, TikTok, Facebook," said Johns, adding that Sanford was "not a forgettable guy."

Charlie Sheen still remembers the moment he learned that he wouldn't star in *Born of the Fourth of July*.

At the time, he was best known for his work in movies such as director Oliver Stone's *Platoon *and *Wall Street*. But, as he's said before, he thought he and Stone had agreed that he would star in Stone's 1989 movie about Vietnam War veteran Ron Kovic.

And yet it was Tom Cruise who ended up earning an Oscar nomination for his turn.

Sheen's brother Emilio Estevez was the one who delivered the bad news.

"Emilio, he calls me. He says, 'Hey, man. You sitting down?' And I think somebody died, right?" Sheen said on Thursday's edition of *In Depth With Graham Bensinger*. "I'm like, 'No, what's going on?" He says, 'Cruise is doing *Born on the Fourth*.'"

Sheen was familiar with Cruise, who moved in the same circle of young, up-and-coming actors. Among other things, Estevez and Cruise had costarred in the 1983 movie *The Outsiders*, and Cruise had even stayed at the family's home for a while when he first arrived in Los Angeles.

"I love that Emilio thought that I needed to be seated to get news he thought was going to make me faint," Sheen said. "I mean, what are we doing here? It's a movie."

A major movie, though.**

"It's a big deal," Sheen acknowledged. "Well, it was also the betrayal factor of it. So I was like, 'OK, all right.' You know, Oliver's been a fan of Tom's for a long time. It's a different movie if Tom does it than if I do it."

Sheen said Stone had previously been clear about wanting him to play the part.**

"We had meetings about it, and we had a dinner with Ron Kovic. And then I stopped hearing from him," Sheen said of Stone on the podcast. "We stopped talking about it, and I reach out to Oliver, and I'm told that he's in Cuba. Whatever. This is like 1988 or '89, right? I'm like, 'OK, well, tell him I'm looking for him.'"

For Sheen, losing touch with the project was a bummer, but one he could overcome.

"You can't lose something you never had," the *Two and a Half Men* alum said. "I didn't sign a contract. There was a handshake."

There was one instance in which Sheen confronted Stone in a bar over what had gone down.

"I stopped in and he was there, and I was drunk enough and he was drunk enough for that thing to finally be brought up," Sheen said. "And he was like, 'I just felt like you didn't have any passion for it. I felt like you lost interest.' I was like, 'Well, I didn't see you. How do you know how much passion I lost or interest that evaporated if we never talked about it again?'"

Despite all that happened, Sheen couldn't help but be impressed by Cruise's work.

"It wasn't like a thing where I'm going to talk s--- about him, because then you see the movie and you're like, 'Oh, OK. All right. He turned it into that,'" Sheen said. "When someone gets a job and does that with it, you're just like, of course. You don't sit there and dissect it and like, 'I'd have done that better.' No, go f--- yourself. That's a brilliant — and you should have won the freaking Oscar."

Besides, Sheen said he would have missed out on one of his own big movies.

"I don't know if *Major League* happens if I do *Born on the Fourth,*" he said. "I'm just pretty sure that one would have gotten in the way of the other, and if it's not true, that's what I'm going with."

Inside the Off-Screen Drama on Stranger Things' Final Season

A trailer for the long-awaited return of Stranger Things dropped Thursday, but the buzz was quickly eclipsed by unsettling reports from set.

The show's star, Millie Bobby Brown, reportedly filed a complaint before production on the Netflix series began last January, accusing co-star David Harbour of "bullying and harassment."

The fifth and final season — an eight-episode run that reportedly cost Netflix more than $400 million — is expected to bring the hit sci-fi series to a close after nearly a decade on air. The upcoming installment has been billed as the show's most ambitious yet, with creators Matt and Ross Duffer promising an emotional farewell to the residents of Hawkins. But according to reports, production may have been overshadowed by off-screen tensions between two of its biggest stars.

An unnamed source told The Daily Mail that Brown's filing included "pages and pages of accusations" and led to a months-long internal investigation that has been kept tightly under wraps. The source also noted that "the allegations did not include claims of sexual impropriety." The outlet did not specify when the investigation began or whether it has since concluded.

Harbour plays Jim Hopper, the gruff but lovable former police chief of Hawkins, who becomes guardian to Brown's character, Eleven — a telekinetic child test subject whose coming-of-age story lies at the emotional center of the show. Their on-screen relationship, evolving from mistrust to deep mutual care, has been one of Stranger Things' most enduring storylines.

In 2021, Harbour spoke about the bond he'd formed with Brown after years of working together, noting that he felt protective of her as she navigated fame at a young age. "Millie and I have always had sort of a special relationship because I knew her when she was so young," he said on a 2021 episode of the That Scene with Dan Patrick podcast. "I have a real protective feeling for her. I worry about her and the fame and all that she has to struggle with."

But off screen, that dynamic may have become more strained in recent years: Brown allegedly had a personal representative with her on set during filming for the final season, reportedly as a precaution amid the investigation and to ensure a safe working environment.

Netflix, Brown, and Harbour have not publicly commented on the reports.

The allegations come at a turbulent time for Harbour, whose personal life has also been under intense scrutiny. The 50-year-old actor recently finalized his split from British singer Lily Allen after four years of marriage. Allen released her new album West End Girl in October, which includes songs many fans interpret as alluding to the breakdown of their relationship. In one standout track, "Madeline," she sings, "We had an arrangement / Be discreet and don't be blatant / There had to be payment / It had to be with strangers / But you're not a stranger, Madeline." The lyrics have drawn widespread attention for their raw portrayal of infidelity and emotional fallout. In an interview with The Times of London, Allen said the titular character is fictional — and confirmed when asked that she's "a construct of others," rather than a direct reflection of one real person.

Still, sources close to the situation have clarified that the on-set allegations involving Brown are not believed to be connected to Harbour's divorce from Allen. "Lily supported him throughout it all," a source told The Daily Mail. "It was a brutal time."

Netflix remains tight-lipped about the investigation and its fallout. For now, fans will have to wait to see how Stranger Things ends — and whether the real-life tension behind it proves just as dramatic as what happens on screen.

Key Points -

Realty Income's diversification and scale make it one of the top REITs.

LTC is an underappreciated REIT that focuses on senior living facilities.

Main Street Capital faces some near-term headwinds, but its business remains resilient.

10 stocks we like better than Realty Income ›

Most dividend-paying companies make quarterly payments. That's a standard approach because those dividends line up with their quarterly earnings reports while granting the companies more control over their quarterly cash flows, accounting costs, and administrative expenses.

But if you're a retiree who relies on monthly income to cover the bills, quarterly dividend payments might seem lumpy and unpredictable. So today, let's look at three reliable stocks that cut you dividend checks each month: Realty Income (NYSE: O), LTC Properties (NYSE: LTC), and Main Street Capital (NYSE: MAIN).

Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now, when you join Stock Advisor. See the stocks »

A couple speaks to a financial advisor.

Realty Income

Realty Income, which owns more than 15,600 commercial properties across the U.S. and Europe, is one of the world's largest real estate investment trusts (REITs). As a REIT, it leases out those properties and splits the rental income with its investors.

REITs are obligated to pay out at least 90% of their pretax income to investors as dividends to maintain a lower tax rate. Realty Income pays those dividends monthly, and it has raised its payout 132 times since its initial public offering (IPO) in 1994. It currently pays a forward yield of 5.5%.

Realty Income mainly rents its properties to recession-resistant retailers like convenience stores, discount retailers, and drugstores. Some of those retailers have struggled with store closures in recent years, but the REIT has kept its occupancy rate above 96% ever since its IPO by attracting stronger tenants to offset its weaker ones.

Rising interest rates in 2022 and 2023 throttled its growth by stirring up macro headwinds for its tenants and making it more expensive to purchase new properties. Those high rates also made its dividends less appealing than risk-free CDs and Treasury bills.

But as interest rates declined in 2024 and 2025, those headwinds dissipated, and it became a more appealing investment again. Realty Income expects its adjusted funds from operations (FFO) per share to rise from $4.19 in 2024 to anywhere from $4.24 to $4.28 in 2025, which should comfortably cover its forward annual dividend of $3.21 per share. And at $58, it still looks like a bargain at 14 times this year's adjusted FFO per share.

LTC Properties

LTC is another REIT, and it mainly invests in senior housing and healthcare properties. It currently owns 192 properties across 25 states, and its total addressable market has been expanding as the U.S. population ages. It maintained a stable occupancy rate of 81% across its core senior housing operating portfolio (SHOP) in its latest quarter.

LTC pays monthly dividends, at a hefty forward yield of 6.6%. It doesn't raise its dividends every year, and it expects its core FFO to stay nearly flat from $2.68 per share in 2024 to a range of $2.67 to $2.71 in 2025. That outlook isn't exciting, but it will easily cover its forward annual dividend of $2.28 per share.

At $35, it looks cheap at just 13 times this year's core FFO. Like Realty Income, LTC struggled with rising interest rates in 2022 and 2023, but its prospects are also brightening as those benchmark rates decline. So if you're looking for a safe and sleepy place to park your cash and earn some extra monthly income, LTC might check the right boxes.

Main Street Capital

Main Street Capital is a business development corporation (BDC). As such, it offers loans to "middle market" companies that generate $10 million to $150 million in annual revenue.

These clients often struggle to secure loans from traditional banks, which consider them riskier borrowers, yet they're not big enough to attract attention from venture capital firms. BDCs address that unmet demand with higher-rate loans. Main Street has made 175 cumulative investments and manages over $8.4 billion in assets.

Like REITs, BDCs are also required to pay out at least 90% of their taxable income as dividends for a lower tax rate. Main Street is one of the few BDCs that pay dividends monthly instead of quarterly. It has raised its payout annually since 2021, and pays a generous forward dividend yield of 7.4%.

Analysts expect Main Street's net investment income (NII) per share to dip 3% to $3.98 in 2025 and fall short of covering its forward dividend rate of $4.28 per share. That might seem like a red flag, but that's mainly because the Fed's benchmark rates are declining.

Like traditional banks, BDCs generate lower NII as interest rates decline, while rising interest rates boost their profits. Over the long term, Main Street's NII should rise again as interest rates stabilize and its lending activity increases. At $56, its stock trades at just 14 times this year's NII per share estimate, so its downside potential should be limited even as it faces some near-term headwinds from lower rates.

For starters, she got the Wite-Out she used to write her name on one of the lipsticks from her *AS3* cast mate Thorgy Thor, and the concept to write someone else's name over an existing stick sprung from a running joke she started with eventual season winner Trixie Mattel that would've involved writing "RuPaul" or "Michelle Visage" on the tube as a prank.

"There was this moment where I was like, ok, I've really established myself, people do see me as a frontrunner, I've broken some records, if I decide I'm not going to play by these rules, no one is going to be able to say that she gave up because she couldn't do it," DeLa remembers, while Davenport confirms that other moments organically "just led up" to the big, unplanned reveal. "It was kind of this perfect thing where, in this moment, I kind of was fed up with the conflict generating with that moment with Morgan [McMichaels], I saw that I'd actually already done what I needed to do, and these little moments clicked into place.... it felt like fate."

She says she was shocked that production didn't stop her from making the choice, and she's thankful they allowed it to play out as she wished. Still, she's unsure if she would've pulled the stunt the next time she won a lip-sync if she'd lost the duel against BeBe Zahara Benet.

"Who knows? Probably not. It was a thing that was relevant to the moment. Maybe I would've, but I don't dwell on pasts that don't exist," she finishes.

Davenport insists it was a "real moment" for her, too: "I was boo-hoo crying over there, honey," she says. "You know when it's your time to go home and that was really my time to go home. Had she not went home, I do believe I probably would've gone home that episode!"

Warring sisters, a "pig in a wig," and clashing kingdoms crumbling after an alleged "campaign" against a rising queen of the world: *RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 5* had all the makings of a juicy medieval epic, and season icons Jujubee, Blair St. Clair, and crowned queen Shea Couleé join the latest episode of *EW's BINGE *podcast (listen below) to reveal what really went down behind *AS5*'s gaggiest moments.

While many accepted Couleé's path to the crown as written in the gay stars, others seemingly tried their damndest to stir the post for great television; among *AS5*'s many herstory-making moments was perhaps the biggest *Drag Race* shock since Naomi Smalls eliminated Manila Luzon the year prior, when India Ferrah — up for elimination for the fourth straight week — revealed in a one-on-one deliberation that she'd previously heard returning legend Alexis Mateo "campaigning" to oust Couleé from the competition. It rocked the *Drag Race* fandom and Couleé herself, and while Jujubee and St. Clair still don't have clarification on what actually went down (no one feels Ferrah *or* Mateo is outright lying; it's likely a matter of misunderstanding or misinterpreting facts, they say), the latter reveals that there might've been a bit more orchestration happening among the dolls than we saw.

"I do have some insider tea," St. Clair reveals. "I don't really know how much of it's true, but I do know that [the eliminated queens] kind of like called each other, like, 'Hey, this is what was said, this is what's going on,' they got their story straight, so that when they all came to [shoot] the finale, no one was like shell-shocked, like, 'I had no idea you said that, I can't believe it.' So, everyone was on the same page within whatever side was true."

She continues: "I don't know what was true. I think that maybe both sides were somewhat true. I think maybe whoever was talking, I think it was misunderstood, probably. That's my guess. It doesn't make sense that there's this big conflict where there's no found-out true side."

Jujubee speculates that it could've been as simple as Mateo saying, "Oh, you voted for Shea, right?" as a sarcastic question, but the truth is still out there lingering between the minds of those involved.

RuPaul's Drag Race

EW's BINGE podcast welcomes Jujubee, Shea Couleé, and Blair St. Clair for a 'RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 5' recap. World of Wonder

"There were some awkward silences, when the silences were there. I don't think any of us really thought that that was going to happen. I didn't know about it, and I'm still very confused about it," Jujubee explains. "I think it did cause Alexis to question a lot of things, and I think she handled it very well."

Later, Couleé joins the podcast for a solo interview to also address the topic, including why she chose to take the information that Ferrah told her in their one-on-one deliberation to the group for a debate.

"I contemplated saving her. Her plan almost worked. I was so worked up in my emotions, because I was already doubting Alexis. In that moment, it felt that Alexis wasn't really giving me a straight answer. I was really leaning towards picking Alexis' lipstick. I had my hands on it, ready to do it," Couleé reveals. "But, I remembered what I told myself in the beginning of the competition: My strategy would be based on the performance, and, at that time, India had the lowest performance. Though I was like, girl, thanks for the information, I'll take it from here. Unfortunately, it was still [her] time to go."

The reigning All Star adds that she has no negative feelings about her *AS5* competitors, and that she'd "never ever want to aim any hate or vitriol towards any of my sisters" and encourages people "to keep their negative opinions to themselves" because she doesn't hold anything against anyone involved in the drama.

"There was this weird moment where there was like this resolve, where India apologized to Alexis about the allegation, because, basically the way that our conversation had concluded was that [the incident unfolded] post-the lipstick votes being made. It left us to believe that India was more so rearranging the circumstances and chain of events to make it seem like it was a much more sinister plot."

Though Ferrah was eliminated shortly after her big reveal, she maintained in her exit interview with EW at the time that the events unfolded as she remembered them.

"It's absolutely the truth. I will live that truth until the day I die," she previously told EW. "On the side of the stage, Mayhem and Alexis — it was mainly Alexis. Mayhem didn't say much other than that she voted for Shea as well — came to me on the side of the stage and said 'So, did you vote her out? Are we getting rid of her?' I was like, 'What, who?' And she said Shea, and I said 'Shea doesn't deserve to go home, she's competition. Why would I send her home?,'" Ferrah explained. "It was a weird moment. Sitting in *Untucked* and hearing Alexis talk to Shea, telling her she was her family, I couldn't do it anymore. I knew I was going home, but I wasn't going to leave with another dark cloud over me. I wanted Shea to hear my truth and know who she was playing against."

Other highlights from our *AS5* recap episode include:

Monique Heart, Naomi Smalls, and Manila Luzon were so excellent and deliciously chaotic on *RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars 4* that they burned the house down — almost literally, as the queens reveal in an exclusive interview on EW's BINGE podcast.

Fans will recall the season opening with an epic lip-sync between challenge winners Heart and Trinity The Tuck, which ended as the former threw her wig into the air — though it never returned to earth, as it got stuck in the rafters of the studio. It's a move "which almost set the building on fire, ya'll forget that fact!" Heart recalls with a laugh, adding that she decided to pull the accidental stunt when she felt her "lace slipping" during the high-energy performance. "They said, 'Get it! It's synthetic!'"

The show then briefly cut to a stage hand reaching a giant stick toward the ceiling to get the hairpiece down: "Baby, it was like a giant rod that they unscrewed and got up on a ladder," Heart remembers. "He [tried] two or three times and couldn't get it. He got it and everybody cheered!"

Another moment that had a less joyous impact on the fandom, however, was the moment Smalls — after her first challenge win — decided to eliminate Luzon, a front-running contender, from the competition. Smalls still receives vicious comments from the fans to this day, but, like the icon she is, she stands by her decision.

"We worked together on *Jersey Justice*, Manila and I, and we had a really good time doing it.... I thought we both kind of killed it. We talked about it off-camera, all that jazz, and she was like, 'I think you're going to win,' [but] when we went to the judges [they said], 'Manila ate you,' and she was like, 'Yeah, I did kind of eat you.' If we're not going to have a trustworthy back-and-forth, we're clearly not friends," Smalls says. "Maybe that was also a factor of going into making the decision for myself and not really looking at track record."

Later, Luzon joins the podcast for a solo interview to discuss the big moment.

"Miss Naomi Smalls, I knew she would send me home. I knew if I was ever in the bottom, they'd send me home. I'm not stupid!" Luzon says, stressing that she felt a "huge target" on her back after she slayed both the* Snatch Game* *of Love* challenge and the Lady Bunny roast — a move that put her on "a different level" than the other queens. "I kind of threw away the singing challenge even though everyone knows I have 10 years' worth of music. I kind of kept it simple, tried to play it a little bit cool, and when it was time for me to go, I went."

She goes on to say that there are no hard feelings against Smalls, whom has since starred in Luzon's "Go Fish" music video that was released on the day of the shocking elimination back in 2019.

"I thought that people had figured out that this was just a game, but people did take it seriously and they sent her a lot of hate, and I felt really bad. I felt a little grossed out. This is not what the show is about," she says, adding that she'd happily perform with Smalls on tour if given the opportunity. "Ultimately, we all put ourselves out there when we go on the show, and we all know what can happen if you do something crazy on the show. It will stick with you forever! That's probably one of the reasons why I didn't send home Valentina, because I don't need to get hate from Valentina fans!"

Every story needs a good villain. And for the beginning of *The Vampire Diaries*, Damon Salvatore (Ian Somerhalder) was that villain, the big bad brother who followed Stefan (Paul Wesley) home to Mystic Falls to make his life — or eternity — miserable. (And then there was Damon's whole plan to free the series' next villain from a tomb that she wasn't actually in, but we'll get to that.)

In the early days of the series, *Vampire Diaries* co-creators Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec worked to discover Damon's voice, finding inspiration from within. "It's just that inner voice that is so snarky, all the things you wanna say out loud but you can't," Williamson says during episode 1 of *EW's Binge: The Vampire Diaries*.

The result was an arrogant (and glib) Salvatore who delivered a handful of enigmatic one-liners in season 1, including Plec's personal favorite: Standing on a roof, Damon refuses to tell Stefan his evil master plan. When asked what he's up to, he responds, "That's for me to know and you to dot dot dot." And it turns out, that line was Plec and Williamson's way of answering a network note... or 10.

"For the first three or four episodes, any time anyone read a script at the network they were like, 'Yes, but what's Damon's drive? What does Damon want?' And we were like, 'Oh my God, he just wants to be an a--hole,'" Plec says with a laugh.

So, the writers worked it into the script, with Stefan serving as the voice of the network, constantly asking the same question: What does Damon want? Until, finally, Damon tells him that it's "for me to know and you to dot dot dot." (Get it?)

But as season 1 continued, fans started to fall for Damon's evil ways a bit too much, so much so that Williamson and Plec felt the need to reset some things at the start of season 2. "We can't have a lovable villain," says Williamson. "That's great and that's a fan-favorite character, but that doesn't bring you real storytelling and real stakes."

Plec adds, "We had this magnificent villain who could do no wrong in the eyes of the audience and we thought, 'Let's give him something really wrong that is unforgivable so we can buy ourselves another year of Damon as the villain and Stefan as the hero.'" With that in mind, they had Damon snap Jeremy's (Steven R. McQueen) neck at the end of the season 2 premiere. But the fan response was not what Plec and Williamson had intended.

"They [were like], 'Poor Damon, poor Damon, he's so misunderstood! He just loves Elena so much,'" Plec recalls. "We were aghast. We were like, 'What have we wrought? We have basically accidentally created the poster couple for toxic masculinity.' The women loved him and we couldn't understand it at all. That was a moment."

Thankfully, Damon wasn't the show's only villain by that point. As Williamson puts it, "Every time one of the villains turned nice, we brought in a new one." And that's just what happened at the end of season 1, when, in one of the series' biggest twists, Katherine Pierce (Nina Dobrev) shows up, kisses Damon, and then waltzes into Elena's house and removes Uncle John's (David Anders) fingers.

The Vampire Diaries

Nina Dobrev as Katherine Pierce on 'The Vampire Diaries.'. The CW

"That set the standard for *Vampire Diaries*," Plec says of the season 1 finale twist. "That finale set the standard of: We always have to fight to get to as close to this amazing awesome twist and cliffhanger ending as we possibly can. We can never let our audience down with a finale. We put so much pressure on ourselves for eight years to make sure that we never failed a finale. There were some that were better than others, but we took our finales seriously."

And to think, it wasn't always the plan for Dobrev to play both characters. "It didn't occur to us originally that Nina should play Elena and Katherine," Plec says of what would become the Petrova doppelgangers. "In the books, they called it a striking resemblance. I remember Italia Ricci, who had tested for Elena early on, comes up to us at Comic-Con after the show gets picked up she's like, 'I am putting myself in front of you to say I would like to play Katherine Pierce.'"

But by that point, Dobrev's photo had already been used for the 1864 snapshot of the curly-haired doppelganger, and a few episodes later, she'd take on both roles and nothing in Mystic Falls would ever be the same.

Key Points -

D-Wave, IonQ, and Rigetti use different approaches to build quantum computers.

All three companies are unprofitable but are generating sales from their quantum systems.

The odds are stacked against any of the stocks turning $10,000 into $1 million over the next 20 years.

10 stocks we like better than IonQ ›

Once in a while, a new technology comes along on which fortunes are built. Personal computer. The internet. Artificial intelligence (AI). Some people profited tremendously from investing early in companies that became big winners in each of these technologies.

Now, another such opportunity is available. Quantum computing holds the potential to transform multiple industries. Unsurprisingly, many investors see dollar signs before their eyes when they look at the rising stars in the field, such as D-Wave Quantum (NYSE: QBTS), IonQ (NYSE: IONQ), and Rigetti Computing (NASDAQ: RGTI). Which of these quantum computing stocks is the most likely millionaire-maker?

Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue »

Comparing quantum technologies

If you've seen one quantum computer, you've seen... one quantum computer. Different companies use different quantum technologies.

D-Wave Quantum employs an approach known as quantum annealing. It's designed primarily to focus on optimization and search problems. Quantum annealing uses superconducting materials to build quantum computers. These superconductors have no electrical resistance at extremely low temperatures. D-Wave's Advantage2 Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) is a superconductor-based annealing quantum computer that can solve complex problems.

IonQ uses a trapped-ion architecture to build its quantum systems. The company traps individual ionized ytterbium (a rare-earth metal) atoms. It then builds linear chains of these trapped ions to create qubit (the basic unit of information in quantum computers) gates. IonQ ultimately uses these qubit gates to run complex algorithms. The company's approach requires minimal cooling and has a superior error correction rate compared to other quantum computing methods.

Rigetti Computing believes superconducting is the best method of developing quantum computers. One key reason behind the company's view is that superconducting systems can support more qubits. While other companies are also taking this path, Rigetti's full-stack development approach arguably gives it a key competitive advantage. The company operates the first dedicated quantum foundry. Its Cepheus-1-36Q ranks as the largest multi-chip quantum computer.

How D-Wave's, IonQ's, and Rigetti's businesses stack up

A great technology only goes so far. Companies must create viable businesses, too. How do D-Wave's, IonQ's, and Rigetti's businesses stack up against each other?

D-Wave's market cap currently hovers around $12.5 billion. The company generated revenue of $3.1 million in the second quarter of 2025, up 42% year over year. Its net loss was $167.3 million. D-Wave's cash position at the end of Q2 topped $819 million. It has over 100 paying customers, including Accenture (NYSE: ACN), BASF (OTC: BASFY), and Mastercard (NYSE: MA).

IonQ is the largest of these three quantum computing companies, with a market cap of around $21.8 billion. Its revenue soared 82% year over year in Q2 to $20.7 million. The company posted a net loss of $177.5 million. Its pro forma cash position as of July 9, 2025, was $1.6 billion. IonQ's customers include telecom giant BT Group (OTC: BTGO.F), Samsung (OTC: SSNL.F), and T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS).

Rigetti's market cap is roughly $13.9 billion. The company's revenue totaled $1.8 million in Q2, down from nearly $3.1 million in the prior year period. Its bottom line looked less scary than the other two quantum computing leaders, though, with a net loss of $39.7 million. Rigetti's cash position totaled $571.6 million at the end of Q2. The company's customers include the U.S. Air Force Research Lab, the U.K. National Quantum Computing Centre, and Moody's (NYSE: MCO).

Most likely millionaire-maker?

Which of these quantum computing stocks is the most likely millionaire-maker? I think it's too soon to know which technology will be the best. Each approach offers some important benefits.

If the decision was based solely on success thus far, IonQ would be the winner. The company is bigger than its two rivals. It's raking in greater revenue. IonQ also has a larger cash stockpile.

The odds are decidedly against any of these three stocks turning a relatively small upfront investment of $10,000 into $1 million over the next 10 to 20 years. However, if I had to pick one as the most likely to achieve this goal, it would probably be IonQ.

Key Points -

Not many Wall Street firms cover digital assets, which makes VanEck an outlier.

Matthew Sigel, head of digital asset research at VanEck, is very bullish on Bitcoin, the world's largest cryptocurrency.

Sigel's thesis is built on the idea of Bitcoin being increasingly accepted and used as a currency.

10 stocks we like better than Bitcoin ›

Even though Bitcoin's (CRYPTO: BTC) price has stalled in recent weeks, the coin is still up in 2025. The world's largest cryptocurrency has gained about 15% year to date, keeping pace with the broader market (as of Oct. 31), and up a hefty 55% during the past year. More investors have been treating Bitcoin like a form of digital gold, which is on a stellar run of its own, due to geopolitical issues and concerns over inflation and mounting U.S. government debt.

Despite Bitcoin's strong performance, many analysts think there is more room to run. Matthew Sigel, head of digital asset research at the global investment management firm VanEck, thinks Bitcoin could surge as much as 45,279% by 2050.

A big call from a legit Wall Street firm

Although acceptance of Bitcoin is gaining in the mainstream financial world, there still aren't very many Wall Street firms doing traditional research on digital assets and issuing price targets. Part of that has to do with the fact that the sector is only about 16 years old. It's also very difficult to value digital assets because they don't generate free cash flow and earnings like a traditional publicly traded company would. So seeing a longtime Wall Street fund make such a big call is certainly a big deal.

In late July, Sigel and his team put out a big update, suggesting that Bitcoin, in the firm's bull case scenario, could rise to as much as $52.3 million per coin by the year 2050. The findings were calculated by looking at Bitcoin's potential circulating supply, how much of the crypto is used as a currency in international and domestic trade, and whether central banks purchase it, similar to the way they've purchased gold. The analysis also looked at many other factors such as investor demand and global growth to make its long-term calculations.

One of Sigel's main arguments regarding Bitcoin has to do with the deteriorating financial situations of several current world economic leaders like the U.S., U.K., the European Union, and Japan. These countries have racked up huge debts, which force their governments to allocate significant costs to paying annual interest expense.

Sigel thinks this will hurt the preeminent world reserve currencies, leading many consumers and businesses to eventually choose Bitcoin over traditional fiat currencies, creating demand for "a neutral medium of exchange with immutable property rights and predictable monetary policy" like Bitcoin. According to Sigel, Bitcoin provides important attributes that will be valued from a currency such as trustlessness, neutrality, immutable monetary policy, and perfect property rights.

While Bitcoin's network is not viewed as very efficient from a technical perspective, Sigel and his team believe Bitcoin can be scaled through a growing network of Layer-2 solutions that make it easier to transact in Bitcoin, but off of the main network and less tied to the network than traditional Layer-2 solutions on other blockchain networks.

In Sigel's bull case scenario, Bitcoin will capture 20% of international trade and 10% of domestic trade by 2050, and 99% of Bitcoin coins will be removed from circulation. Bitcoin's price will also generate a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 50%, and Bitcoin will make up just shy of 30% of the world's financial assets. In this scenario, the price of Bitcoin will surge to $52.4 million, implying 45,279% upside from current levels.

In VanEck's base case, Bitcoin captures 10% and 5% of international and domestic trade, respectively. Eighty-five percent of coins are removed from circulation and Bitcoin grows at a CAGR of 16%, while making up just under 1.7% of the world's assets. In this scenario, the crypto would trade at about $2.9 million by 2050.

Is a $52 million Bitcoin token actually possible?

The short answer is I have no idea. I've learned to never say never in the world of crypto, but I also am also skeptical when it comes to price predictions on cryptocurrencies because, as I mentioned above, they are quite different from traditional stocks.

Sigel and VanEck are definitely legit sources and did some very interesting work in their research that is worth reading. It's really tough to know whether Sigel's prediction can come true and whether consumers and businesses will view Bitcoin as a better form of currency than fiat currencies. For what it's worth, I find Sigel's base case assumptions much more realistic, like a 16% CAGR and Bitcoin eventually capturing 1.7% of the world's financial assets.

Right now, I still view Bitcoin as a good long-term asset for investors to allocate at least some capital to. The token is increasingly being viewed by many investors as a good store of value, which offers a unique form of diversification that many assets cannot offer.
