Nick is charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents.
TheLos Angeles TimesandKNBCboth reported, citing sources, that Nick was being treated for schizophrenia.
According to NBC, Nick was first diagnosed with schizophrenia years ago and was being treated with medication.
TMZfirst reported that Nick had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and was taking medication for it at the time of his parents' deaths.
Rob and Michele were killed in their Los Angeles home in the early morning hours of Sunday, Dec. 14, according to the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.
The New York Timesreported that Rob and Michele's daughter, Romy, found her father's body after a massage therapist couldn't reach her parents and called.
Romy quickly "fled" the house without having seen that her mother had also been stabbed, which she was later told by a paramedic, per the paper.
Nick was arrested near the University of Southern California several hours after his parents were found dead.
Nick is currently in custody and is being held without bail. He brieflyappeared in courton Wednesday, Dec. 17 and agreed to waive his right to a speedy arraignment. He has not yet entered a plea.

Multiple sources have told PEOPLE that Rob and Nick got into a "very loud argument" at a party at Conan O'Brien's home on Saturday night, hours before the alleged murders."Nick was freaking everyone out, acting crazy, kept asking people if they were famous," a source said.
Rob and Michele have been married since 1989, having met while he was directingWhen Harry Met Sally.
The couple had three children together: Jake, Romy and Nick. Rob also adopted his daughter Tracy during his first marriage to fellow director Penny Marshall.
