Olivia Rodrigo addresses lingering rumors of Sabrina Carpenter feud

Over five years after her smash debut single "Drivers License" sparked feud rumors,Olivia Rodrigois setting the record straight on her relationship toSabrina Carpenter.

"I think she's great," Rodrigo toldBritish Vogue."I'm so happy for all of her success too. I love the album she's put out."

In 2021, Rodrigo released "Drivers License," a heartbroken anthem that fans speculated was about herHigh School Musical: The Musical: The Seriescostar Joshua Bassett. The song launched her career, took her tothe top of theBillboardHot 100, and spawned theories that the "blonde girl" referenced in its lyrics was Rodrigo and Bassett's fellow Disney alum Carpenter.

Weeks later, Carpenter released her song "Skin," which was widely believed to be a response to "Drivers License" based on the lyric "Maybe blonde was the only rhyme." "because i liked a boy" came out the following year, detailing the abuse Carpenter got over her rumored relationship to Bassett.

Half a decade on, it's water under the bridge. Carpenter and Rodrigo have been photographed chatting at events over the years, and the "Vampire" songstress revealed toBritish Voguethat the two have spoken "many times" since their apparent beef.

Elsewhere in the interview, Rodrigo empathizes with her younger self who, at just 17, was thrust into a media circus around her love life. She expressed shock that people were "that mean" to her as a teen, adding that she looks at kids that age and can tell they are "such a baby."

"I was going through a break-up, working a full-time job, making [Sour], a student in high school and taking, like, three AP classes," she said. "Looking back, I always think, 'Wow, life will never be as hard as it was when I was 17.'"

She expressed hesitance over speaking about Carpenter, saying "people just get weird and clickbaity." Still, Rodrigo expressed that it was "all love" between the two Grammy winners.

As for Bassett, it doesn't appear that he kept in touch with either of his supposed ex-flames.In a 2021 interview, he toldEntertainment Weeklyabout turning his attention inward following the release of "Drivers License."

"I spent the most amount of time this year really working on myself and my mental health," he shared.
