ONLY days remain for Americans to claim a one-time payment from a massive $9 million settlement over state violations regarding telemarketing text messages.

While the financial services company has denied any wrongdoing, a class action lawsuit claims the company violated several laws in the state of Washington

Earlier this year, Robinhood, an investment app, agreed to a $9 million settlement to resolve the class action lawsuit.

The company has been accused of violating telemarketing laws in Washington, specifically the state's Commercial Electronic Mail Act (CEMA) and Consumer Protection Act (CPA).

The lawsuit claims Robinhood violated these laws by failing to obtain explicit consent from consumers when the company sent unsolicited texts regarding its refer-a-friend marketing program.

Robinhood agreed to the large settlement to resolve the case.

However, the company has denied doing anything wrong.

AM I ELIGIBLE?

To be eligible for the settlement, you must have been a resident of Washington between August 9, 2017 and February 13, 2024.

Recipients must also have received a text message regarding Robinhood's referral program during that same timeframe.

Thirdly, settlement participants must not have clearly and affirmatively provided consent to Robinhood to receive the referral program messages.

HOW DO I GET THE PAYMENT?

Eligible participants have until May 13, 2024 to claim the one-time payment

The payment can be collected by filing a claim form on the official Robinhood Referral Settlement website

While filing, individuals will need to supply a claims code, if available, and the phone number they received the unsolicited text messages from.

If individuals do not have a claims code, they must provide proof of the Washington address they were living at when the text messages were received.

HOW MUCH WILL I GET?

The exact amount each eligible settlement participant receives may vary depending on the total number of claims filed by the deadline.

However, The U.S. Sun previously reported that the payment would likely be between $45 and $90.

How individuals receive the payment can also vary.

When filing out the claim form, eligible claimants will be able to select the exact method they want to receive the cash, such as a paper check, Venmo or PayPal.

The final approval hearing for the settlement is scheduled for July 16, 2024.

OTHER PAYMENTS

If you are not eligible for the Robinhood settlement, there are several other ongoing settlements you just might qualify for to receive a direct payment.

In North Carolina, Americans have until May 6 to claim a payout from a data-breach settlement.

Or, thousands of people have until June 12 to file a claim of a $1 million settlement that has accused a publishing company of sharing subscriber information with third parties without consent.
