From Krispy Kreme to Dunkin' Donuts - the six places to get freebies and deals for national doughnut day
National Doughnut Day is upon us and half a dozen chains are offering free doughnuts in celebration. The national day of homage for the sweet treat is celebrated on the first Friday in June each year. The commemoration began 86 years ago, founded by the Salvation Army in honor of their 'Donut Lassies. The Lassies were women volunteers who travelled to France to care for wounded soldiers in the First World War.
